************ A LOOK INSIDE OUR PROGRAM ****
Tikkun sober living for men was Established in 2016 by David Raab, he noticed that there was a need for a nice sober living houses that was affordable to the blue color worker in a nice area. He wanted to make sure that they had nice full size beds and a warm "home" style feeling about the house, He wanted to help people with addiction deal with it comfortably not having to worry about being in a dangerous neighborhood getting off the bus, walking to work or finding work.
Wanted the house to have emotional support dogs, it has been proven to help with stress and anxiety not to mention healing.
He chose a house that was in the middle of the two main bus lines and was close to various types of jobs. He knew what he wanted to do but at this point had no idea how to deal with people with substance use disorders, what there behaviors would be? How to set up policies and procedures? How to deal with relapse, the list goes on and on, so he leaned on people in long term sobriety.
He Had no idea the amount of time, effort and work it was soon going to take to find the right people/person to help him get this off the ground and stable.
My name is Connie Stidham I am the Director of operations at Tikkun house i am also a Certified recovery coach through ICCADA, I met Mr. Raab in December of 2017, while working at Fairbanks as a chemical dependency technician, My best friend was a client of Tikkun house and loved it so when I started having people ask me about the place I reached out to David to set something up and the most unique bond formed instantly one that could only be described as a divine intervention in my opinion.
Mr. Raab was a full time student studying law, a full time employee at the VA hospital in Indianapolis as a BS Registered Nurse as well as running the house.
I quickly noticed that He needed my help with learning about Substance use disorders, dealing with relapse and preventions, programming, EVERYTHING! We sat down to talk about things that needed to be done and how to do them and he listened with an open heart and welcomed any change that needed to happen, any thing he could listen and learn to make it better he did with a open mind, all he cared about was getting people to a place that they could live a productive life without the use of any mind or mood altering substances.
We are coming up on two years now and what a journey it has been to say the least, we have succeeded in some areas and failed in others , but we see when we are at fault and try to change it promptly.
In the past we were able to take Recovery Works , which is a grant for people that are on Felony probation or pending charges in the legal system, we are awaiting a walk through next week so that we will soon be able to start taking the funding again which will help so many people that are not able to pay for sober living or treatment themselves.
All to often people that are using want to get clean , they want to live a productive life and not live a life full of criminal activity but they do not know where to turn, they have no idea that they qualify for help or better yet that help is out there and is free if they put the foot work in.
This is where places as we are can be of assistance if someone will only pick up that 1000 pound phone and call.
ABOUT OUR HOUSE:
We currently house 10 male clients and have an emergency bed incase someone gets transitioned out of a facility late and can not find a place to go until morning.
1- Clients are Required to have a sponsor and work the 12 steps in a program of the clients choosing, narcotics anonymous , alcoholic anonymous etc..
2-Clients are required to go to 90 meetings in 90 days, this has been proven to be very effective in building a network, teaching people to form a routine along with learning from others in long term sobriety how they have gotten sober and stayed sober.
Building a network is one of the most important parts of someone new to sobriety's life, normally the only people we associated with in our days of active addiction was people that not only was using but that did not live an honest productive life, we learned from our 'using partners how to live a life of crime and maintain it'

NO TYPE OF VOILENT CHARGES - any type of charges that shows or forms a pattern of aggression or violence.
3- We have emotional support dogs that have really been a huge part of the healing process for us .
everyone makes sure that they have food and water and love … sometimes if the clients choose they can walk them .
